Happy Birthday, Martin Luther
135 years ago today, on November 10, 1983, Martin Luther was born to Hans and Margarette Luther in Eisleben, Saxony (now Germany). Probably most well known for posting his 95 Theses on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg on All Hallowed’s Eve — October 31, 1517 — he went on to become a central figure in the 16th Century attempt to reform the Roman Catholic Church. We call ourselves Lutherans today not because we think of him as a Saint, but as a way of honoring him for his efforts to restore a place for Christ and the Word of God at the center of the Christian Church.
