Sermon; Easter Sunday: "They Remembered His Words"
Date: April 21, 2019
Liturgical Day: The Resurrection of Our Lord / Easter Sunday; Year C
The women go to the tomb expecting death. With heavy hearts and broken dreams they plan to prepare Jesus’ body for burial. They are perplexed when they find that the body is missing, and terrified when they are addressed by two angelic messengers. The men don’t fare much better: they consider it an idle tale. But when they remember what he said to them, it all begins to make sense. So, too, with us. We have come here today to remember that when the brokenness of this life impacts us, God’s response is resurrection; new life. This is the Easter message. He is risen, and promises us new life.
