Sermon; The Sixth Sunday after Pentecost: "Title"
Date: July 21, 2019
Liturgical Day: The Sixth Sunday after Pentecost (Proper 11C)
Two stories are presented to us today, both having to do with hospitality. Abraham and Sara scurry about and make three strangers welcome in their home. They end up experiencing the presence of God. Martha scurries about to make Jesus welcome in her home. She becomes distracted by the tasks at hand. These stories caution us to extend ourselves, creating a rich experience of hospitality for others, yet in a way that doesn’t lose sight of the fact that in doing so we just might experience the presence of God. Faithful hospitality is sacred hospitality, for the one extending it and for the one receiving it. How might we do so here at Saint Peter, and in our daily lives?
