Sermon; The Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost: "Invited and Inviting"
Date: September 1, 2019
Liturgical Day: The Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost (Proper 17C)
In our world, many people find themselves preoccupied with increasing their worth, their status or their influence. To do so takes a great deal of focus on self, and leaves little time or energy to focus on others. In this morning’s Gospel lesson, Jesus uses the image of a wedding banquet to invite us into a different way of living. We catch a glimpse of what it means to live in the kingdom of God when we are so grateful at having been invited in by God (Just as we are!), that we do everything in our power to see that others have the same experience. We who have been invited, become we who invite — not setting boundaries between who is in and who is out, but seeking to include others into our homes, our churches and our lives.
