Sermon; The Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost: "Rally to Faith"
Date: September 8, 2019
Liturgical Day: The Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost (Proper 18C)
This Sunday, Christian churches all over North America are “rallying the troops” to begin another program year. At the same time, Jesus offers us a stern challenge in this morning’s Gospel lesson. In language stronger than we might have expected, he teaches us that it isn’t easy to follow him with our lives. Even something as positive as the relationships we have with family members can distract us from faithfulness. So this new beginning, with opportunities on Sundays and throughout the week to study, reflect and deepen our faith, invites our strong commitment to grow in faithfulness. As we spend time daily with God, and as we gather together weekly, the Spirit empowers us to follow Jesus, no matter the cost.
