Sermon; The Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost: "Welcome"
Date: September 15, 2019
Liturgical Day: The Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost (Proper 19C)
Churches haven’t always been the most welcoming communities in a society. We have our own ways of being church, and are often resistant to those who criticize us for being exclusionary. This morning Jesus challenges us to reconsider this. What is it, about our own congregation, that makes guests feel just a little bit less than welcome? Or better yet: what might we do to make guests feel just a little bit more welcome? How can we create opportunities for them to become fully part of our life together? We give God great joy — and experience it ourselves — whenever this happens!
