Sermon; The Sixth Sunday of Easter: "At Home with Love (and God)"
Date: May 26, 2019
Liturgical Day: The Sixth Sunday of Easter; Year C
In his last address to his disciples — what scholars call his “Farewell Discourse” — Jesus prepares his followers to continue on without him, and casts a vision for what the early church will become. The Holy Spirit will come to them, will teach them everything, and will remind them of what Jesus has said. Their life together will be grounded in the peace that comes only from Christ, and expressed in a love that is grounded in his word. This love for others is what we celebrate on Memorial Day weekend, remembering those who loved this country enough to make significant sacrifices for it. It is also what we hope to encourage, as we explore what it means to Love Together Joyfully, through our participation here at Saint Peter.
